Many women experience a weakening of their vaginal muscles after having children and, just like any other muscle in the body, the muscles of the vaginal canal can grow weaker with age. This can have a negative effect on a woman’s sex life, resulting in reduced sexual gratification, as well as reduce overall confidence in one’s body.

The friction created by penetration and movement against the vaginal walls is part of the enjoyment both partners feel during sexual intercourse. Friction is diminished when the vaginal muscles are lax and that greatly diminishes sexual gratification. Decreased sexual fulfillment can have a negative effect on an intimate relationship. Not only that, but lax vaginal muscles contributing to decreased ability to enjoy pleasure from sexual activities can take a toll on a woman’s confidence. This is where a Vaginoplasty procedure at our Toronto clinic can help.

Vaginoplasty is also called vaginal rejuvenation or vaginal tightening. It’s a procedure used to tighten the muscles of the vaginal canal and to repair soft tissue that may have been damaged during childbirth of another type of injury.

This surgery can be performed on women of any age and is designed to decrease the diameter of the vagina. By tightening the muscles along the vaginal canal and repairing the soft tissues, the diameter of the vagina can be reduced. When the vagina is tightened, friction during intercourse increases and that enhances pleasure for both the woman and her partner.

Depending on the case, other procedures may also be performed in conjunction with the Vaginoplasty. These include labiaplasty and perineoplasty. All three cosmetic gynecological procedures are designed to restore and enhance every woman’s sexual health, whether concerns are related to health, such as pain and discomfort, or lack of confidence and sexual gratification achieved through otherwise pleasurable activities.

How a Vaginoplasty/Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery is Done

At La Fontaine Toronto Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, the Vaginoplasty procedure is performed by an esteemed OB GYN who specializes in cosmetic gynecology.

You will either be put under general anesthesia or given a spinal anesthetic. Your surgeon will use a laser to make incisions in the vaginal walls and suture tissue together with dissolving stitches. Excess skin is then removed. There will be no visible scarring because the Vaginoplasty procedure is essentially all performed inside the folds of the Vagina, so no scarring, marks, or spots can be visibly detected.

When the surgery is completed, you’ll spend some time in our recover room being monitored by our surgical staff to ensure you wake up fully and aren’t experiencing negative side effects.

This surgery usually takes about an hour to do at our Toronto cosmetic surgery clinic. However, if you choose to have other procedures done simultaneously, that time period may be extended. You’ll be able to go home the same day.

Vaginoplasty Risks and Recovery

Just as with any surgery, Vaginoplasty comes with a few risks and possible complications, including bleeding, infection and a reaction to anesthesia. Common side effects include pain, discomfort and swelling. Following your doctor’s instructions carefully will help to minimize any complications and side effects.

You will need anywhere from a couple of days to one week off from work immediately following a Vaginoplasty, with full recovery taking from six to eight weeks. Avoid strenuous activity and exercise during this time and, of course, avoid sexual intercourse until you’re fully healed. Otherwise, you will risk reopening incisions and needing follow-up surgery.

Once you’re fully healed, you and your partner will both experience renewed sexual pleasure from a dramatic increase in sensation from intercourse.

Labiaplasty surgery is also known as labia minora reduction and labial reduction. It’s a plastic surgery procedure for altering the labia minora (inner labia) and the labia majora (outer labia), which are the folds of skin surrounding the human vulva/clitoris.

Some women with large labia experience pain during intercourse or feel discomfort during everyday activities like walking or bicycling. Sometimes even wearing tight fitting clothing causes discomfort.

Other women may simply wish to alter the appearance of their genitals or enhance their sexual experiences by removing some of the skin that covers the clitoris. Labiaplasty can greatly enhance the cosmetic appearance and sexual attractiveness of the outer vagina giving you greater confidence and self¬-esteem. Plus, in some cases, the labia can be damaged or altered after childbirth, which requires repair not only to restore sexual health, but also to boost a woman’s confidence over time.

Women whose labia have become irritated and painful will often find relief after the labiaplasty surgery. Whatever your reason is for considering vaginal surgery, our Toronto cosmetic clinic is here to support you.

Perineoplasty

Perineoplasty (also perineorrhaphy) is the plastic surgery procedure used to correct damage, defect or deformities of the vagina and the anus. The muscles of the perineum (the area between the vagina and the anus) can become excessively stretched or separated. The skin can even be scarred as a result of tearing or poorly performed episiotomies during childbirth.
This stretching and tearing can lead to a variety of problems, including itching and an inability to enjoy sexual stimulation. It could even inhibit the contraction of the vaginal muscles during intercourse, which is a necessary function for achieving orgasm.

Apart from these problems, some women may be embarrassed by bulging scars or excessive skin in this area. All of these problems can be remedied by a perineoplasty.

Perineoplasty can be done at the same time as a Vaginoplast at our clinic in Toronto. During a perineoplasty, the surgeon will reopen the scarred tissue and remove any excess skin, if necessary. Then the area is sutured closed to ensure correct healing.

Talk to your doctor during your pre-surgical consultation, if this is a concern for you.
